the future of The Advaita Show

Just an update folks. I spoke to Bob for the first time in four months yesterday and asked him if he was interested in starting the show again. He said something like “It’s just the same questions from the same people over and over again.” So I guess that’s a no. You can always go over to his site and buy the recording of his weekly sessions on CD. We might do a some kind of special monthly show or something. I don’t know. I might even do the show by myself and impersonate Bob’s voice, kind of like the way the US government has someone pretend to be bin Laden on those videos that come out every time they was to scare us all again…. all I’d need to do is say “Who’s asking the question?” and I doubt any of you would be able to tell the difference. Come to think of it, I could just splice in recordings of his voice from previous shows. Hmmm… I can see this turning into a very long franchise. 🙂

I’ve found the pointer “who’s asking the question?” completely non helpful. For it seems that the question points back to the mind and gives the mind more to ponder.

I particularly liked when you called Bob on his “standard” advaita answers. I think we still need Bob in the mix, though I also liked Eliot’s comments.

Maybe you could expand the format and include some phone (skype) interviews with some of Bob’s students, like James Braha and John Wheeler.

Good luck on whatever you decide.

    I’m confused by Bob’s reply… I’m full of questions.

At what temperature does Chicken cook best?
How do you avoid burning the top of your mouth while eating a hot toasted cheese sandwich?
Why does sperm go thick and gluggy when you masterbate in the shower?
What will happen on the US TV show HOUSE next week?
Is it just me, or is Southpark getting better?
Why don’t I get as much sex as I desire?
Why after enlightenment are women still ashamed to fart outloud?
How come people in this forum are afraid to respond to my comments?
Why didn’t my realisation make me cooler?
How come I can’t stop leaving stupid ass’d comments?
How come every time I write about non-duality on my myspace blog, the blog gets totally ignored?
How come when I write about sex and drugs on my myspace blog, the blog gets 80 hits?
Whats wrong with wanting to be the fattest man alive?
How quickly can I degenerate this respectable forum before I get kicked out?
Why can’t I stop myself from writing this?

    Cameron,
Your comments brought back a memory of about 57 years ago? (I ended with a question mark to follow the rules).

I was about 7 or 8 and my father took me to see the radio braodcast of the Howdy Doody Show. I was really looking forward to seeing Howdy. Before the show, Buffalo Bob Smith says, “I’m sorry boys and girls, but Howdy is off doing his TV show and I’m going to imitate his voice.” What a bummer!

  4. Masil says:

Feeling vulnerable I ask ????? (I am a good rule follower too) how can I help Richard sit easier with his childhood/current memories, he may be feeling a deep sense of rejection…. and how can I help Ed who is clearly clutching at straws.

Marcelo, with his scattered thinking patterns may be beyond pointing anywhere 🙂 In response to question 8 Marcelo I feel that you would just be looking for further bait in order to satisfy your addictive nature towards your incestuous need to churn fodder.

I’m off to find a good guru who will take me right where I am (question 12 … can you point me to that blog) instead of just ripping off my mask in a one size fits all fashion?????

  5. marcelo says:

Cameron, can you cancel my ability to “satisfy my addictive nature towards my incestuous need to churn fodder” – I’ve always had an issue with that aspect of myself.

Thanks Masil, your right, I do have a scattered brain pattern- but luckily, a stern ship is not necesarily required for understanding ones true nature(although occasionaly I end up hitting shore on strange lands). Like Bob say’s- full stop! – and that I can do easier than someone with an amazing ability at putting intelligent words together.

A speaker I will never be, an inspiration neither. Although an idiot, now, that I can relax in : )

The best thing “I” got from the Advaita show is that the search is over. I also love the notion that there is no ME doing anything. Just spontaneous action. It’s taken “me” a while to grasp that.

I mostly want the Advaita show back because I enjoyed listening to you guys. I downloaded each new show first thing in the morning and walked around the neighborhood listening and laughing. The neighbors must have thought I was nuts.

Even though there’s nothing to achieve, nothing more to gain, I still want the show back. Take a different approach! Don’t even bother asking questions. Just talk about Advaita and tell a few Advaita inspired stories!

Just wondering if Bob will be in Melbourne the week of 22nd. September, 2006 (well tomorrow onwards 🙂 ) as I was hoping to visit. I did send an email to his site contact but have had no reply.

    thanks,
    masil.

I read recently and it resonanted that even if he just sat there and *hummed* being with an enlightened teacher was effective.

  8. Cameron Reilly says:

Masil, he’s here as far as I know. Where are you coming from? Meetings with Bob are held three times each week at:

    4 / 950 Burke Road – Deepdene – Melbourne – Australia.
(Melways page 45-K7) Corner of Whitehorse and Burke roads.

Times: Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 7.30pm to 9pm
    and
    Sunday morning 10am – 11.30am.

    Dear Bob, Cameron and Elliot,

I thank you all, for the possibility to re-llistening each of the advaita show parts, which have been unfortunately done before I could find this link on the internet… ..Regretfully, but who cares. I am very satisfied vith non-compromising and non-copceptual way of Bob’s teaching. I myself am in advaita for over 12 yrs and have been fighting with unchangeable situations until I finaly came through experience which has taken me away forever from this non-useful form of spiritual suffering… I can, at the end, finaly say, that all is happening, is just swiming through my person, but offcourse without any need of feeling “I myself am doing it”.

Thanx for the possibility of hearing Bob and all you fellows. You were great.

Could all the Advaita Show podcasts be put in one location for download? This show should have been called the No Bullshit Advaita Show. It answered questions that stacks of books danced around. If I existed I’d be sad it’s gone. Thanks Cameron and Bob etal and good on ya.

  11. Cameron says:

Brian, if you use podcast software such as iTunes, you can point it to the RSS feed for the show:
    http://advaita.thepodcastnetwork.com/category/podcast/feed/
This should make it easy to pull down all of the shows.
    Otherwise, point your browser to
    http://advaita.thepodcastnetwork.com/category/podcast/
to quickly find all of the shows. I don’t have an easier solution for getting them all on one page at the moment, sorry. I’ll try to think of something.

How about This Bob instead of That Bob, and he’s Australian too.
